The 2024 Honda (U.S.)/Rogers (Canada) NHL All-Star Game ended with a thrilling 7-4 victory for Team Matthews, captained by Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The game, held at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, saw outstanding performances from the Maple Leafs’ contingent, securing a memorable win on home ice.

Matthews, named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), showcased his prowess with two goals and an assist in the final against Team McDavid. Mitchell Marner, Morgan Rielly, and William Nylander, all representing the Maple Leafs, played pivotal roles in the victory.

The win wasn’t handed to Team Matthews easily, as they faced tough competition throughout the tournament. In the semifinal game, they triumphed over Team Hughes, captained by Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks, in a shootout, winning 6-5.

The Maple Leafs’ quartet, alongside celebrity captain Justin Bieber, will share the $1 million prize awarded to the winning team, adding an extra layer of celebration for the Toronto players.

“It’s pretty remarkable, and to be able to enjoy with the ones that got me to where I am, it’s even better,” expressed Marner, highlighting the significance of participating in an All-Star Game on home turf.

The game wasn’t solely a showcase for the Maple Leafs, as players from other teams made significant contributions. Clayton Keller (Arizona Coyotes), Mathew Barzal (New York Islanders), and Alex DeBrincat (Detroit Red Wings) each scored a goal and provided two assists for Team Matthews.

“It was good,” commented DeBrincat. “We were trying pretty hard there at the end. You might as well try if we’re here. That was the memo, and everyone on our team had a lot of fun.”

Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers) led the charge for Team McDavid with a goal and two assists. However, it was Team Matthews that ultimately secured the victory, with players like Marner, Keller, and Barzal contributing to the team’s success.

Filip Forsberg (Nashville Predators) stood out with three goals and two assists for Team Matthews in the tournament. The win not only brought joy to the Maple Leafs players but also added an exciting dynamic to the weekend’s festivities.
